The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's "Team In Training"
TNT organizer Donna Grogan hugs finisher Jody Villa from San Francisco, CA | Whether you are out there running the marathon, or cheering from the sidelines, you can't help but notice the impressive number of purple shirts from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's "Team In Training". They are out there running to help cancer victims. National Director "Team In Training" Southern Regional Office organizer, Donna Grogan describes the "Team In Training" as "a program for people who are ready to have a life-changing experience both in their efforts to train and fund-raise."
"Team In Training" does an amazing job. Through the 2003 Maui Marathon, one runner from the San Francisco chapter raised $17,000 whilst another one raised $14,000. This is a small sample of their commitment.
Many of their marathon runners described the Maui Marathon "Team In Training" experience as the "best thing they have ever done," which is a good indication that both the race and the "Team In Training" are doing a great job.
"We have an amazing coaching staff," said Donna Grogan, "our runners are already marathoners before they come here. They have put in over 500 miles of training in the last 5 months and the Maui Marathon is really their victory lap. We try to emphasize that it is all about completion, not competition."
"Team In Training" runners know that when they are having a tough time out there that their struggle is for a purpose and through their running they have the ability to change lives for the better. The Maui Marathon is proud to be part of the "Team In Training" challenge by providing a safe, challenging event for these runners to achieve their goals.
