The Maui Marathon is the oldest continuously held running event in Hawaii and one of the oldest marathons in the United States. Ranked number 9 in North America by the "Ultimate Guide to Marathons," this 26.2-mile course is also recognized as one of the ten most scenic marathons in North America. Point-to-point, from Kaahumanu Center in Kahului to Whalers Village in Kaanapali, a major portion of the course runs along the ocean where Maui's favorite annual visitors, humpback whales, can be seen playing in the sparkling blue water giving the race its nickname, "Run with the Whales."
